4th Grade : Leo Lazo
At St. Therese since 2006
Education: B.A. Communication (Journalism), University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines; Master in Teaching, Seattle University.
Experience: This is my 6th year at St. Therese School. Prior to St. Therese School, I taught at Echo Lake School, in Shoreline, Washington. Right after getting my certification, I worked as a substitute teacher in the Seattle School District and in schools in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Before coming to the United States, I had a year-long stint teaching English and journalism at a small college, Northwestern College, in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Before attending graduate school, I spent years working in newspaper and magazine publishing, in the Philippines and in Seattle.
Passion/Interests: I enjoy leading my students in experiences that help them learn and discover, think, and express themselves. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our son, and our huge extended family near and far. I love to read and learn, and also love listening to words and music. I also enjoy experimenting with art materials, and looking at what people create. (Our school receptionist, Ms. Branch, taught me how to quilt and I have been exploring that recently, first inspired by my son’s quilt that he made in Ms. Branch’s quilting class years ago.) Outdoors, I enjoy gardening and talking long walks.
